For those who are acquainted with Thiruvananthapuram, Ponmudi Hill Station is the winner who takes it all, while taking up the list of hill stations in capital city. Though Ponmudi is not the sole contender, Ponmudi leads up by a humongous margin. However, every hillock in Thiruvananthapuram has it’s own story to tell. But, interestingly there is one body double for the Golden Peak. That is none other than Vellanikkal Paaramukal.
Vellanikkal Paaramukal is an unexplored yet underrated, pristine destination situated in the outskirts of the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram. The 5-acre rock bed hillock, is located near Pothencode, Thiruvananthapuram
I went to the place on a shower lashed afternoon when the sun was still playing hide and seek with the clouds. It was almost unoccupied due to the rain. However, while climbing up the hillock, I understood that the rainy morning was actually a boon. The landscape was so green and wintry due to incessant showers. The chilly wind was gushing without fear. Being alone was kind of daunting, yet exciting.
Vellanikkal Paaramukal is often hailed as the younger sibling of Ponmudi due to the vegetation. The kind of grass popping there often resembles the same in Ponmudi. Ponmudi and Vellanikkal also has a look-alike watch tower which provides a bird-eye view of the backdrop.
